The legend of Cherry Tree

November 22, 2023 by Fall Writing Contest 2023 Leave a Comment

This story is by July Tale and was part of our 2023 Fall Writing Contest. You can find all the writing contest stories here.

When Joshua, the god of trees, was walking by the sea, Tiffany, the goddess of flowers showed up on the other end, who was holding a bouquet of roses. He fell in love with her immediately. He turned himself into a farmer and walked up to her.

“Hi young lady, these roses are very beautiful and my daughter likes roses. Can you please give me one to bring back to her?” Asked Joshua.

“Sure.” She handed it to him.

——

Joshua put the rose beside his favourite tree, yellow birch.

“They look great together.” He thought to himself.

“Oh, you met Tiffany,” said Sarah, the goddess of bees and also an admirer of Joshua. She came and gave honey to Joshua which was for Clagrathy, the type of tree that needs honey every month to grow. And he would give her maple leaves in return.

“Her name is Tiffany. What a pretty name!”

“Don’t you dare to like her, I am your fiancée. Remember you said it when you were five?”

“Don’t take that seriously, I was just a child.”

“I take everything seriously ever since I said my first word.”

Sarah was a prepossessing girl when she was little, but as she grew older, she looked ordinary. Joshua’s mind changed as her appearance changed.

——

Sarah went home and summoned the bees, “All of the bees listen to me, fly to Tiffany’s field and destroy her flowers.”

Then the bees flew together in one direction. When they reached Tiffany’s field, the queen bee allocated portions for the rest of the bees to destroy.

When Tiffany saw her flowers, she was devastated. She held one petal and found a drip of honey.

Joshua on the other hand, went to Tiffany’s field as well and pretended he was passing by.

“What happened to the flowers?” He asked.

“They were destroyed by bees. I don’t know why it happened. Now I have to plant the flowers again.” She sighed.

“I can help you.”

“Thank you so much. That’s very kind of you.” She smiled.

——

“Sarah, how can you do that?”

“What do you mean?” Sarah pretended not to understand what he was talking about.

“Stop acting innocent. You had the bees to destroy Tiffany’s flowers.” He glared.

“Then you should stop seeing her, and I will stop anything abominable to her.”

“Sarah, don’t make me loathe you.”

“You will loathe me because of her?” She sneered.

“Not because of her. It’s because of what you’ve done.” He explained.

“You know you honey for Clagrathy right?” She asked.

“Are you threatening me?”

“No, I am not. I want you to know who you need more. You’ve known me for twenty years, and Tiffany is just a person you’ve seen twice, are you sure she’s worth it?” She clenched her fists.

——

Joshua decided to reveal who he was to Tiffany. He collected all different colours of leaves and tied them with grass and planned to propose to her.

“Tiffany, I am actually the god of trees. I apologize for not being honest with you. But I really like you, I didn’t how to approach you, so I pretended to be a farmer. Will you marry me?”

“Yes.” She nodded.

Joshua hugged Tiffany tight. At the same time, a new type tree started growing pink flowers, which later they gave it a name Cherry Tree.
