We love to help writers find the audience their work deserves, and we would be so happy to publish one of your stories. Thank you for considering sharing a story with us.
In order to help you select a piece our readers will love, we’ve put together the following guidelines.
Word Count
At Short Fiction Break, we offer readers great stories they can enjoy in just a few minutes. We generally publish stories under 2,500 words, but we sometimes consider longer pieces by established authors.
Genre
We publish fiction stories of almost any genre. Some of our most popular genres include drama, romance, humor, fantasy, science fiction, and mystery.
Explicit Content
We refrain from publishing explicit content, and therefore do not accept submissions of erotica. Romance and sexual tension are certainly welcome, and sex scenes happen in many good stories. That said, we ask that you steer clear of R-rated sexuality.
Author Bio
We include a brief author bio with each story published on Short Fiction Break. A great bio is two to three sentences long (or three to five lines on the site). It may include up to three links you’d like to send readers to—perhaps your website, social media presence, or other publications.
Publicizing Your Story
Short Fiction Break was founded to give writers a platform to share their stories with the world. When your story is published with us, we’ll publicize it among our audience to give it the attention it deserves. This will be most impactful if you partner with us to share your story as well.
Before your publication date, we recommend you announce to your audience that you have an upcoming story on Short Fiction Break.
Once your story is published, we ask that you share it on social media, announce it on your blog, and email your fans to let them know.
We also invite you to respond to your fans in the comments. We’d love to share our audience with you and help you find more readers who will follow your writing. The best way to make this happen is by responding to your readers and building relationships in the comments section.
Copyright Policy
When your story is published on Short Fiction Break, we ask for exclusive publishing rights to the story for three months.
During these three months, we encourage you to post an excerpt of your story on your website with a link to its page on Short Fiction Break. However, we ask that you don’t publish the full story on your blog or anywhere else.
After the exclusivity period is over, all rights will revert back to you, and you will be free to publish your story elsewhere if you choose.
Thank You for Sharing Your Story With Us
It’s a huge privilege, and we don’t take it lightly. Thank you!
