When a story is published on Short Fiction Break, you grant Short Fiction Break exclusive rights to your story for three months. This means that Short Fiction Break will be the exclusive publisher of your story for three months from the date it is published.
During these three months, you are welcome to post an excerpt of your story on your website with a link to its page on Short Fiction Break, but we ask that you don’t publish the full story on your blog or anywhere else.
After the exclusivity period is over, all rights will revert back to you, and you will be free to publish your story elsewhere if you choose. If your story is published in another place (an anthology, a podcast, your website, etc.), please include an acknowledgement that it was originally published on Short Fiction Break. If it’s published in a digital medium, include the link to your story on Short Fiction Break as well.
You can find out more about publication rights, along with other great tips for promoting your story and gathering readers, here.
Above all, thank you for sharing your writing with us! It’s an honor to publish every single story.
