If you’ve made your way to this page, chances are good that you’ve received an invitation to join the Short Fiction Break team of regular contributors. We love discovering new talent and publishing great stories, and we’re excited to have the opportunity to share yours.
At its heart, Short Fiction Break is a place for writers to share their writing, get exposure for their best stories, and build an audience. Your bio will appear at the bottom of all your stories so readers can follow you and read more of your work.
Here’s what it looks like to be a regular contributor to Short Fiction Break:
You’ll publish a story once per month. We’ll schedule you on the SFB publication calendar for a monthly publication date. Each month, you’ll upload one new story a couple days before that date. We’ll get it all set up and publish it on schedule.
You’ll workshop your story with other writers before publishing. We highly value the process of editing and getting feedback to help you make your story the best it can be. We ask that before your story is published on Short Fiction Break, you share it in The Write Practice Pro to help you polish it to perfection.
We want to publish and promote your best work to help it reach the audience it deserves. If we don’t feel a story is publication-ready, we’ll let you know and hold off running it to give you a chance to revise it into a story you’re proud to share.
You’ll share your stories with your audience. We want Short Fiction Break to grow so everyone’s stories reach a broad audience of devoted fans. The best way you can help us make this happen is by sharing your stories once they’re published. Post them on social media, email them to friends, tell your mom, share the link on your website, etc. Of course, if we publish a story you like by another author, go ahead and share it, too!
You’ll grant Short Fiction Break exclusive rights to your story for three months. This means that Short Fiction Break will be the exclusive publisher of your story for three months from the date it is published. During these three months, you are welcome to post an excerpt of your story on your website with a link to its page on Short Fiction Break, but we ask that you don’t publish the full story on your blog or anywhere else. After the exclusivity period is over, all rights will revert back to you, and you will be free to publish your story elsewhere if you choose.
Stories should be no longer than 2,500 words, and they may not be erotica or hate. All genres are welcome except erotica and hate. Romance? Yes. Sexual tension? Yes. R-rated sexuality? Nope.
All our regular contributors join the Short Fiction Break team by invitation only. It’s our honor to publish your stories!
